A kids bedroom is their kingdom. It’s that one place in the house that is just for them! Whenever people come to visit us, our kids always say to them “C’mon, I want to show you my bedroom!”.

When we build a new house, we always let the kids guide us on how their bedroom is decorated because after all, it’s their bedroom and we want it to be a place they are proud of and love to play in.

In our last build we created a reading nook in each of their bedrooms. The great thing is you don’t need a huge amount of space to create a reading nook, just enough space for a chair or beanbag.

Our kids have always had a love for books and story time. As they have gotten older, they love playing families and school teachers. A reading nook creates the perfect stage for this imaginary play.

Here is how we created our kids reading nooks in our last build…

Chair is from Kmart
Drawers, log side table, denim toy basket, pillow animals, knitted throw and faux sheep skin all from Mocka
Cushion is from Adairs
Book ledge is from Ikea
Dr Suess print and wall stickers are from Etsy
Rabbit print is a family heirloom

Chair is a second hand shop find, spray painted white with Rust – Oleum paint and primer
Pink fluffy cushion and side table are from Kmart
Princess cushion is from Adairs
Silver cushion is from Red Current
Wall print is from Matakana Markets
Book ledge is from Ikea

A reading corner is on the kids ‘wish list’ for their new bedrooms at the Lover Dreamers Coastal Cottage. Watch this space as we create a new little reading nook for each of them in the coming months!
