If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know we have a thing with making sure we get the indoor outdoor flow right with our builds.
The first thing to consider when it comes to indoor outdoor flow when designing a new home is having the door track at the same height as your internal floor and your exterior deck, which creates a seamless transition inside and outside. This is something you need to plan for in the design stage. It’s hard to change this mid build.
The next thing we did is create a large corner cavity stacking door to achieve maximum opening space out to our deck. The sliding doors slide back and hide away in our walls.
We also extended the pitched tongue and groove ceiling to deck to align with the internal ceiling.
We only have a small house but this large corner door along with the pitched ceiling makes the space feel much larger.
We added a bench seat the full length of the deck to allow maximum seating space in a smallish area.
We have a thing for slatted screening (refer back to #loverdreamerbeachhouse stairs). We added a slatted privacy screen to the deck. Not only does it give us some privacy from our neighbours, it also gives some textural interest and a beautiful contrast to our Domino cladding. .

See that wall to the left, our double shower is hiding behind there. That wall is handy being the only bathroom in the house. If someone needs to go into the bathroom to quickly grab something while the shower is in use, it’s still private and you can’t see in. Having a solid wall opposed to glass is also very easy to keep clean. I don’t think I could go back to a glass shower screen ever again ‘if’ we build or reno again. 😆
This was an extremely cost effective bathroom. With this clever design we only wall tiled in the shower (to the end of the wall the towels are on) and half way up the wall behind the bath. We added tongue and groove panelling to the upper wall behind the bath and installed shutters to give it some textural interest. This is the part of the bathroom you see from the hallway. 💙
We have a second toilet in our laundry and so far we are loving the ease and simplicity of having only one spacious and well planned bathroom that’s quick and easy to clean. .

Another DIY coat / hat rack we created for our laundry. We love the colour and rustic character of this old weatherboard plank. This one wasn’t made from cheap hooks like the one in the hallway. I collected these hooks over the last year on my travels for work. We wanted the laundry hat rack to be a bit quirky and imperfect. .

We are still getting out of holiday mode and back into the groove of work and school routines. It took us a while... but we have finally put together our DIY coat racks. We bought 3 long lengths of old weatherboards from a recycled building yard for $5 and bought these hooks on eBay for $15 (for a pack of twelve hooks and they came with the black screws). We created this style of coat rack for our front entry and used the left over hooks to make one for our garage to store bike helmets etc. A total cost of about $10 to make (per coat rack). This is an easy DIY project that anyone can do 🙌🏼 .

The mermaid and the wild child! 😝
The holiday is over ☹️ and we are back to school and normal routine tomorrow which I’m kinda looking forward to ✌🏻
Mr Harry’s room 💙
The kids bedrooms are still incomplete and are a work in progress. I’m taking my time decorating this time around before we drill lots of holes in walls or go on a linen shopping spree 🙈 Going for less is more this time round.
Speaking of less... we have a double garage full of ‘stuff’ we are going to sell in a garage sale in the coming weeks. Stay tuned ✌🏻
